Peace Prayers in Cao Dai

Cao Dai is a syncretic religion that originated in Vietnam in the early 20th century. It combines elements from various major world religions, including Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Christianity, and Islam. The central belief of Cao Dai is that all religions are different manifestations of the same truth. Followers worship a supreme deity called Cao Đài (meaning “High Tower”) and practice rituals and teachings aimed at achieving spiritual harmony and unity among all people.

Cao Dai incorporates ethical precepts from Confucianism, occult practices from Taoism, and theories of karma and rebirth from Buddhism. Its organizational structure is similar to Roman Catholicism, with a pope, cardinals, and archbishops. Cao Dai worship includes elaborate rituals and festivals, and after death, 11 requiems are held to pray for the soul’s progress to salvation.

.

Peace prayers in Cao Dai seek divine guidance for global harmony, spiritual enlightenment, and unity among all people through the synthesis of teachings from multiple world religions.

.

We pray that the wisdom of the great tao
Be widely spread on earth.
Shining the way to all creatures of nature’s birth.
May all humanity be redeemed,
And our whole world know peace.
And may the places we meet to worship you
Be granted safety’s lease.
